It happens more than one might think. A few years ago, a man claiming to be a minister (he had no college degree, no degree from any seminary, heck he didn’t have one of those degrees you can buy online to be a minister) convinced a single mom that autism was an “abomination to the lord” and must be exorcised. The child died from being suffocated while being sat on for several hours. The minister defended his actions, as did the boy’s very own mother. It made national news and my mom said that there a couple of ministers in Florida agreeing that autism is nothing more than demonic possession. As much as I would love to see my son cured or effectively educated so he can live on his own when I am too old to care for him…I would rather have a living autistic child than a dead one. Someone is possessed with demons alright, but it darn sure isn’t my son.
